Ground beef recalled due to possible E. coli contamination
Wolverine Packing Co. Recalls Ground Beef Over E. Coli Concerns #
Wolverine Packing Co. has issued a recall of over 167,000 pounds of ground beef distributed to restaurants due to potential E. coli contamination. Fifteen cases of illness have been reported in Minnesota, with symptoms beginning between November 2 and November 10. Fresh products contain a use-by date of November 14, and frozen items are labeled with an October 22 production date. The beef can be identified by the establishment number EST. 2574B.
Products were sent to restaurants nationwide, and there is concern that some are still in restaurant refrigerators or freezers. These items should be disposed of or returned. Illness was first reported to authorities on November 13, and a sample from November 20 tested positive for E. coli O157.
Symptoms of infection, such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting, typically appear three to four days after exposure to the bacteria. While most recover without treatment within a week, some may develop serious kidney issues requiring hospitalization.
